VERNATOUN ''The Garret''

On October 25, 1985 due to Toumanian's youngest daughter Tamar Toumanian's efforts, a memorial room ''Vernatoun'' was opened in the Museum which symbolizes a very important period in the poet's life. Toumanian has always been a central figure in the artistic and literary elite. Many celebrated individuals sought his friendship; his house was a meeting place for many of them. Prominent writers, cultural benefactors Aghaian and Proshian, Demirchian and Shant, Komitas and Papazian met each other there. In 1899, on the upper floor of the house N 50 Behbutian street the wonderful sextet of Toumanian, Aghaian, Isahakian, Demirchian, Aghbalian and Shant established Vernatoun, each bringing in his unique individuality and color and turning Vernatoun into a place of feast for mind. Demirchian called it ''our church''.
Meetings at Vernatoun were held on Thursdays and were for intellectuals. Apart function: tea, dinner, fun, jokes.
